Jess goes to Rockendorf
So during this week I asked every single person in my class that is not annoyed by having a foreigner in their class what they were doing during the weekend. Most were doing stuff with their family or hanging out with their boyfriends, so I was left with no plans. I didn’t want to sit another weekend at home with family because I had spent almost all the others with them. Moria and I were on the phone after school on Friday and I told her I had no plans. Coincidentally, she had no plans either. Her host mom the weekend before had said that I could go to her house some weekend. I then asked my host mom if I could go to Rockendorf for the weekend. My host parents had a meeting for the foster kids, so if I wanted to go I had to get to the train station and buy my ticket on my own. I had no problem with that because my host dad had looked at the bus schedule, and there was a bus that would get me to the train station in plenty of time, so I could try to figure out the ticket machine to buy my ticket to and from Saalfeld where Moria and her host mom would pick me up. So I packed the night before, and woke up early to catch my bus to catch the train. I left about an hour after my host parents. I walked to the bus stop and go there a little bit early. I was waiting and waiting and wondering why the bus was late. (The buses in Germany are scarily ALWYS! On time), so I looked at the schedule and realized that the bus only runs on Mondays-Fridays. I then called my host parents, and neither one of them answered their cells because they were busy in their meetings. I know I had passed the train station before, and I was pretty sure I knew where it was, so I started to walk to the train station because I really wanted to go to see Moria, and not just go back home. So I booked it to the train station as fast as could, so I could try to make it there on time for my train. Once I found the train station I tried to figure out the ticket machine….not so easy. I even turned it to English to see if I could figure it out that way. I just couldn’t do it. Luckily a person came up behind me and I was able to ask her for help. I bought my ticket and then I waited for the train. When a train came I didn’t know if it was the right train I needed to get on, so I asked the conductor and he said no I needed a red train. So I got off and then waited. Once the train left I looked at my clock and realized that that was the train I needed. I then became super annoyed at the Conductor because he told me it was not the right train. I then called Moria to see if she could find out when the next train was. I was super confused! We found the next train, and then I had over a hour of waiting. I then went over to Kaufland, and bought me a diet Pepsi, a fresh baked pretzel (still warm since it was early in the morning), and some gummy bears. When the next train came I was so relieved that I could finally go on with my plans. Everything went very smoothly on the train from there including me changing trains in Arnstadt. When I got off the train in Saalfeld, I was met by Moria, a big hug, and her host mom. We then went to get in the car to go to her house. We then started to plan the weekend. Moria had been dying for some ice cream, so Moria, her host sister Maria (16, and I were going to go into her city and get some ice cream. After that we then went to Burg Ranis, and walked around the fortress. There was also a cave we attempted to walk through, but it was waaay to dark to go into, so we just climbed around it instead. After that we walked to their school, and just around the town. Afterwards we walked home. They do not live close at all to the nearest city. WE walked about 5 km just to get to their house. What made it worse was that it was a hilly path too. When we arrived back at their house Moria and I chilled in her room a little bit, just talking and catching up. WE then went downstairs to and watched a movie Moria had gotten called Angus. Thongs. And Perfect Snogging. It is a brittish movie that was never released in the states (at least of what I know of), that was freaking hysterical! WE would have watched it in German, but when a movie is first made in English and then translated, its just not as funny in German. After the movie was over Moira’s host mom came in and told us that there was a party in the neighboring town, and that if we wanted to go we could! Of course we wanted to go! We then went to go get ready. I didn’t exactly have any clothes with me to go to the party, so I borrowed a really cute sapphire blue shirt from Moria. We had to walk to and from the party because her host mom was the only one who could drive, and she would be drinking that night. The party was 2 km away. When we got to the party Moria and I started to realize the the person who was probably cloest to our age was at least 10-15 years older than us. Lol! We didn’t really care though! We were going to make it fun! I had my first Radler here in Germany, Which is beer and lemonade. It was really good. It was also a good way to not test my American lightweightness. (It’s not a word I know..but it is now! Lol) Moria and I danced a whole bunch, and tried to learn all the dances that everyone just knows here. Everyone was laughing at us dancing because we were not dancing with a partner like how they mostly dance here. I find it much better to just free style it, or whatever you would call our dancing! I think they were just mad that the Americans could dance, and they can’t. After walking home at about 2 am, I was ready for bed. So I brushed my teeth and then went to bed. I slept really well that night! The next day we pretty much just chilled. Around 3 pm I went back to the train station to catch my train back t Ilmenau. Everything went really smoothly! I was ready to sleep though as soon as I got home, so I packed my book bag for the next day, ate dinner, and then went to bed.
